INFO/RAC celebrated science at the European Researchers' Night.

All the participants in this major event had in common the desire to spread scientific culture and knowledge of research careers.

That's why INFO/RAC, the Regional Activity Centre for Information and Communication, took part in the European Researchers' Night in Rome on 29 and 30 September.

The main aim of the event was to publicise one of the most interesting and important tools developed by INFO/RAC: the SEAWATCHER application.

This application is linked to the "StrongSeaLife - Survey and TReatment ON Ghost nets SEA LIFE" project created as part of the LIFE programme, the aim of which is to protect and improve the state of conservation of Posidonia oceanica and coralligenous reefs by reporting equipment abandoned or lost by fishermen. The project's study area includes the Gulf of Asinara and the north-west coast of Sardinia.

INFO/RAC staff explained to the public how to contribute to the fight against marine pollution by collecting data on marine litter.

Available for IOS and Android, all you have to do is download the application onto your mobile phone, search the index for the object or species that has been the subject of an alert and report it. With a few simple gestures, everyone can help protect the environment.

It's a direct way for citizens to get involved and provide practical support, in a simple and interactive way, in the fight against the waste that is invading the Mediterranean Sea and its coasts.

The European Researchers' Night is an initiative promoted by the European Commission since 2005, involving thousands of researchers and research institutions in every European country every year.
