EU: €380 Million Approved for LIFE Projects
The European Commission has approved over €380 million for 133 new projects under the LIFE program, dedicated to the environment and climate action. This funding covers more than half of the €574 million needed, with the remainder coming from national sources and public-private partnerships.
The projects support the objectives of the European Green Deal, including climate neutrality by 2050 and biodiversity protection by 2030.
The funds are divided into several sectors: €74 million to contribute to the circular economy and improve quality of life, €144.5 million for nature and biodiversity projects, €62 million for climate change resilience, mitigation, governance, and information, and €99 million for governance and market solutions to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
With 32 years of experience, the LIFE program has co-financed over 6,000 projects and has seen a 60% increase in funding for the period 2021-2027, now amounting to over €5.43 billion. The grants are managed by CINEA, the European Climate and Environment Executive Agency.
