Nature based solutions to mitigate climate change impacts
PAP/RAC has released “Nature-Based Solutions for Adaptation to Climate Change in Different Coastal Typologies of the Mediterranean” which provides a comprehensive approach to addressing the impacts of climate change on the Mediterranean's coastal areas. Developed with input from regional experts, the guidelines focus on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) that restore and protect coastal ecosystems to enhance resilience and improve human well-being.
The publication examines four coastal typologies, entirely artificial, semi-artificial, transitional, and semi-natural coasts, offering tailored strategies for each.
It highlights the importance of wetlands, dunes, and forests in climate adaptation and showcases successful projects from across the region.
Emphasizing the need for integrated strategies and international cooperation, the guidelines serve as a call to action for governments, organizations, and communities to protect and preserve the Mediterranean coast for future generations.
