Towards global action for drought resilience
Ms Tatjana Hema, UNEP/MAP Coordinator, attended the event “Towards global action for drought resilience: COP27 high-level ministerial side event”
Organized by the UNCCD with the support of WMO, GWP, FAO, UNEP, UNDRR, OECD, TNC, CIFOR/ICRAF and UNFCCC COP27, this high-level side event facilitated experience-sharing at the global, regional, and national levels, spanning sectors and scales, putting a spotlight on the appropriate policy, advocacy, financing and implementation measures that are integrated, inclusive and sustainable.
The role of integrated drought approaches was stressed, including the following key messages: engaging in dialogue and coordination among countries, UN agencies, academia, government actors, civil society, private sector and NGOs gears for innovative solutions to guide policy and action
Coordinated efforts have promoted efficiency and leverage considerable engagement of stakeholders, including the private sector for drought resilience
The event was moderated by Ms. Leigh Ann Winowiecki, Global Research Theme Leader, Soil and Land Health, CIFOR-ICRAF
